Manuela Aguiar

Researcher

Manuela Aguiar is Associate Professor with Aggregation in the Mathematics and Information Systems Group of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Porto and member of the Center of Mathematics of the University of Porto.

Research focus

Manuela's research interests are in dynamical systems, particularly, in differential equations with symmetry and coupled cell networks and hypernetworks. More concretely: Equivariant dynamical systems: Study of bifurcations in ordinary differential equations with symmetry. Use of geometric and algebraic methods in ordinary differential equations with symmetry in the study of heteroclinic cycles and networks and of the dynamics in their vicinity. Coupled cell networks and hypernetworks: Study of the dynamical properties of coupled cell systems, especially those determined exclusively by the structure of the associated network/hypernetwork. Focus on the study of synchrony patterns, bifurcations and heteroclinic phenomena. Particular interest in relating the dynamics of coupled cell systems with the dynamics of the quotient systems in the restriction to synchrony subspaces and of the respective lifts.
