Chris completed his undergraduate studies in mathematics at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen. He then pursued his PhD at the Max-Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization. Following this, Chris held various postdoctoral and faculty positions in the USA and UK before joining VU Amsterdam in 2020. Chris is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at VU Amsterdam. Additionally, he holds affiliations with TU Munich, the University of Oxford, and the University of Exeter.
Research focus
Many systems we rely on every day—from power grids to our own brains—can be seen as networks of interacting dynamical units. Chris’s research gives insights into the dynamics and function of these networks. It is driven by the need to understand these systems and their dynamics. The mathematical results that are generated give insights into the dynamics and function of networks, whether coupled chemical reactions or oscillatory brain network activity affected by disease.
